Is Your Community CLEAN?
As time progresses, we think it is safe to say that we are maneuvering under a strict cleanliness guide. At the very least, it is the one thing we know for sure.
Unfortunately, COVID has presented challenges in communities that have been difficult to navigate. Each day, we struggle with deciding our next steps as the unknown is great. Emotionally and physically, we are challenged as each day passes to create a safe environment. Statistically, the vintage folks are at a much higher risk, but we believe that natural solutions can be quite effective and consoling.
We have been extremely impressed with some implementations that have been occurring in communities and facilities. Essential oils and aromatherapy have been used for thousands of years and can be added to aid in cleanliness. This tool is popping up more and more in the medical community as a way to aid them for their patient care. It is such a positive step in the direction to supporting the body and brain at being CLEAN.
Tea tree (melaleuca) essential oil is a beneficial cleaning tool; it is known for its cleansing and purifying properties. In one specific community that we have encountered, it is being used in a unique way to help keep residents and staff healthy. Before each meal, everyone is handed a towel dipped in diluted tea tree and water. They take the towel and rub between their fingers, all the while smiling at the small pleasure. It is tactile, so they seem to really enjoy it. The smell is subtle, but the benefit is great. They rub their hands for a few minutes and then dispose of it in a bag to be laundered. It is a simple, effective tool to add as an extra layer of protection from outside invaders. The amazing thing about this particular community is that they did not have one positive case of COVID!
We are certainly not crediting melaleuca towels entirely in stopping the virus. However, this simple added layer of protection could be just the ticket needed to creating a real solution. Using melaleuca can be implemented at home or if you are a home care worker - just stick in your pocket and go! There are so many ideas similar to this that can compliment the motivation to be clean. The bottom line is that these solutions are being implemented, and they are working!
